Global demand for DVD recorders will soar by 205% from 4.42 million units in 2003 to 13.5 million units in 2004, according to Nobuyuki Kokubo, president of Pioneer's Taiwan subsidiary Pioneer High Fidelity Taiwan.
In Taiwan, demand will rise from 10,000 DVD recorders in 2003 to 40,000 units this year, Kokubo said.
Kokubo expects DVD recorders integrated with hard drive burning functions will become a mainstream product this year. The company plans to offer such models and aims to grab a 40-65% share of the Taiwan market.
