RITEK 16X SILVER DVD-R "RITEKF1" | I have today been fortunate to receive some pre-production samples of Ritek's new 16X DVD-R media and although I am assured it is rated at 16x speed my NEC & Pioneer will only write to it at 12x speed maximum. The discs are the normal silver unbranded sample media the underside dye being purple but not as deep as the G04/5 media with the inner seal a gold ring. The outer rim is smooth with no excess adhesive
The inner ring has this code :-
H4-07F60503173749A07
The ring nearest the dye has this number :-
DR5F80K-00005
The disc rim is sealed well and once split it easily separated and I felt that the inner seal was not very strong. The dye layer was adhered to both halves of the disc, bending these double cause them to shatter showing the plastic to be a little on the brittle side and could result in the discs cracking from the center hole after prolonged use. | 00000000 00 EA 00 00 01 40 C1 FD 9E D8 52 00 02 87 0D 13 .....@....R..... 00000010 87 88 90 00 03 52 49 54 45 4B 46 00 04 31 00 00 .....RITEKF..1.. 00000020 00 00 00 00 05 88 80 00 00 00 02 00 06 09 0F 15 ................
| This media only burns at 12x speed with the drives I am using but from the results I can see no reason why it should not give good results at 16x speed when the drives firmware will support it. Both the drives show that the best burning speed for this media is 8x with a rise in errors at both 6x & 12x speed but these errors are well within acceptable limits and show no detrimental results when played back on my DVD players The PIF error rate is exceptionally low for all the scans and the speed tests show a perfect graph. The graph produced by the old 106 drive is higher overall but well within the acceptable limits and is a good graph, this shows that the media is at it's best when burnt at a higher speed than the 4x speed that this drive is capable
Overall this media has produced good burns with perfect speed curves each time and is a very good media at 12x speed burning, I now just need to wait and see how it performs at the16x speed it is rated at when the burner's firmware permits In comparison with the CMCMAG AM3 discs reviewed the end of last year the CMC discs have the edge when it comes to burning at the lower & high speed ends and the CMC media does burn at 16x speed on the Pioneer & NEC with the stock firmware. |
