The UK Film Council has launched a film search engine to help movie-lovers find their favourites films in any format or platform.
FindAnyFilm collates cinema, broadcast, legal download and streaming data, providing users with comprehensive film listings linking through to relevant booking engines.
They can also track specific films' availability in different formats as well as request information on films not listed, which the Film Council will use to gain greater insight into the viewing...
Pete Buckingham, head of distribution and exhibition for the Film Council, said the site aimed to provide people not just with access to legal online distribution channels but also to promote them. "It lets you find what's legitimately available across all platforms. Broadband, downloads and streaming have changed the way people watch films, so we want to make sure they know where they can do so legitimately."
FindAnyFilm replaces the UK Film Council's film-based social network, MyFilms, launched two years ago.
"MyFilms was about getting more people watching a wider range of films in cinema, but the focus now is getting more people watching and enjoying films across the UK on multiple platforms," said Buckingham. "FindAnyFilm is a progression from that, stripping out the social aspects for now and concentrating on how people can find new films."
The search engine, developed by BlueBarracuda, will be promoted in a high-profile integrated marketing campaign, including display and search activity online.
