Pirate Bay spokesman Peter Sunde Kolmisoppi finished up the first week of the civil and criminal trial against The Pirate Bay by announcing that most torrents shared through the group are legal.
During an internal investigation of 1,000 torrents, according to Sunde, around 80 percent of them were found to be legal. Both prosecutors and lawyers for copyright holders believe founders of the Pirate Bay knew copyrighted material was being shared, though one member said they were aware -- but learned because copyright owners sent numerous letters to the organization. Sunde faces criminal charges related to copyright infringement alongside Fredrik Neij, Gottfrid Svartholm, and Carl Lundström, who are the founders of the Pirate Bay. The entire case has drawn worldwide recognition, as it's becoming more and more like a political case. For example, the following communication took place during the final day of the opening week: “When did you meet [Gottfrid] for the first time IRL?” asked the Prosecutor. “We do not use the expression IRL,” said Peter, “We use AFK.” “IRL?” questioned the judge. “In Real Life,” the Prosecutor [explained]. “We do not use that expression,” Peter noted. “Everything is in real life. We use AFK - Away From Keyboard.” “Well,” said Roswall. “It seems I am a little bit out of date." |
