Sony PlayStation 3 owners will be able to watch NBC movies and TV episodes through the PlayStation Network.
PS3 and PlayStation Portable (PSP) owners will have access to more than 1,300 movies and 4,500 TV episodes. Interested gamers can watch "The Office," "Heroes" and "30 Rock," with the episodes available for sale just one day after they air on television.
Rentals from the PSN store range from $2.99 to $5.99, and $9.99 to $14.99 for purchases. Both SD and HD content will be available from NBC.
"We are constantly looking for new ways to bring our content to our viewers, and are thrilled to offer a selection of both television shows and movies to PlayStation users," NBC Universal Digital Distribution President Jean-Briac Perrette said in a statement.
Offering streaming content through video game consoles is the new battleground among gaming platform manufacturers, with the Microsoft Xbox 360 offering streaming movies and TV through Netflix. Studios believe that the use of game consoles and Blu-ray players provide excellent methods for delivering additional content to the living room.
The PlayStation Network, a free service, has 20 million registered users, while Microsoft Live, which users have to pay to access, has around 17 million users.
